Entry permit

Indian traveling to Bhutan does not need a visa. However, it is required to carry a valid passport, voter identity card issued by the Election Commission. Indian nationals traveling between Bhutan and Nepal require a valid passport.

Route permit

The route permit is required for those who travel beyond Dochula pass, in central and western Bhutan. The route permit is processed and issued in Thimphu. This permit can be processed only during working days (Monday to Friday) and applications are accepted from 9-am to 11-am.   • Photographic equipment, video cameras, and other personal computers for personal use also come under duty.

The items mentioned under (d) and (е) must appear on the declaration form. If these goods are sold through a sale or gift in Bhutan, they are responsible for customs. Visitors must submit their forms to the customs authorities upon arrival.

Important tips for importing and exporting goods from Bhutan

There must be goods that the visitors love to take back home as memorabilia. But both the bringing goods to Bhutan and taking from Bhutan come under duties of import and export. Therefore, tourists must follow certain guidelines. The import and export of the following products are prohibited.

  • Weapons, ammunition, and explosives are prohibited to import and export.
